White Gold
People are angry —
but for the most part,
with themselves.
They are bitter and cold.
But there is no education
other than the falseness
of what they are constantly told.
And they are told
by people who give nothing back,
who pay no tax,
but promise streets paved with white gold.
It’s true —
they are bitter and cold.
So they huddle together,
putting on their old-fashioned coats.
To them,
all their life mistakes
would be made better
if they could just stop those damn boats.
But their regrets
clearly have the ability to flow.
It’s a shame emotional intelligence,
empathy,
and compassion
remain so remote.
So they watch their TV,
and they watch their news.
And they listen to the lies,
and they listen to what they’re told —
and all the while,
they hope for some of that white gold.
