The Demons
The demons have crept into our lives.
They have stopped the flipping burgers
and kept the knives.
and it’s status.
Status gained, freedoms waned.
Same thing, same people blamed.
and.
what happens to the inadequate person,
whose failings taunt him,
dressed up in their shame?
The demons are creeping back into our lives.
They stop clinging to falsehoods,
but they bring their own plastic ties.
And they sell you pamphlets,
dressed in acid lies.
Here we are,
suddenly pushed from the sofa into the trench.
The front line — this is how it works,
straight ahead,
but everything well meant,
is crooked and bent.
You are never safe.
You are never there —
safe in a chair.
The demons, they have us.
And they make sure that you stay very scared
