Telephone Wires
We are not
hanging onto telephone wires any more.
Our analogue screams
kiss gently
the lips of electronic meaning.
You know,
we used to be all heart;
now,
the populist ideal leaves us reeling.
We are not stuck in the past
like a novelty town.
It’s just…
For some of us
it has stared us down.
We are not so insecure
that the condiments of our life
taste a little less pure.
And now,
now here we are,
and we find ourselves smiling for the camera,
because that smiling
is doing all the heavy lifting.
And when it comes to hiding,
we are not hanging onto the telephone wires any more;
but then,
we seem to be telegraph poles apart.
Communication, then,
must always need the right touch.
