Hull
Do not look back,
for the hull
is upturned,
and it has shadows
caused by fires
that smoke,
but somehow never burn.
Do not read
your own biography,
for the pages turn,
but the words only ever yearn.
And the words,
they have a liquid effect —
one that
can never really wash down regret,
and it is one
that struggles with every test.
Do not look back at the years,
for they come
with noticeable weight
and slipshod tears.
There is no lightness,
not the type you might have hoped for.
The years
have placed all their destinations
into your brain,
and as you hold on,
time speeds up
and veers across the lanes.
