of course i am defensive
i fought for this piece of land
i fought to be me
i fought to be who i am

find me,
in hot air balloons
strumming the sky
kissing clouds
and look me in the eye

although it is october –
feels like time for a spring clean
i will tidy up –
and put away toys
that i once played with

sometimes –
you are reminded
just how loved
you are
and how –
much people
care for you

she stepped out of my life
like the ghost
that wandered into my room
and left
but left too soon
like the sun that leaves

could she be my party –
waiting there just to say, ‘surprise!’
could be the year –
that i think exists
yet i have not found
could she be the up –
to my puzzlement which looks down

here i am, looking at social functions
which one,
are you going to go for?
they question me but never truly ask

there is a magic door –
that just needs a key
a better future,
for which they are interviewing me
