and days of impulsivity
have waned
to protect my sanity

a majority of people
are conservative by nature
protecting what they have
believing it is hard won
or part of a predetermined claim

it is out of fashion
or seen as the worst
and the generations before
seem stumped, when asked to put others first

it was my lack of navigation
that placed me in danger
coping mechanisms
underpin anxiety
and the care given growing up
should give you that stability

my hamper
has all the bits
those that do
and those that do not fit

maybe i should share
maybe that hill
starts with just one step
but every false idol
tries to convince me that they are correct

what if –
mental illness –
is not an illness
just life experience
and trauma
