you can drown in your high art
you can tangle yourself up
in the idea that what you write
is special and worthy
words are just words
i should take it to mean controversy
you can pretend to pretend
in the middle class suburb
you cling to with greasy hands
you can look at colour charts
and wonder why they look so bland
you can read your newspapers
and sign their stupid petitions
gulping down their moral claims
always happy finding someone to blame
let me rant at a world
that too often has a low end voice
a world bloodied and worn out
choking on accepting choice
you can drown in your high art
