Jesters and Jugglers

what kind of parenting
just passes the buck
says, this is what I think
shrugs its shoulders and says, good luck
what kind of society
makes children feel so disconnected
so hateful just to be alive
governments ignore the poverty and deprivation
is it any wonder they strike out with knives

what kind of world
celebrates with glee the mediocre
treating them like circus freaks
the dam of self respect
sure has sprung a major leak
it’s a world,
of mixed up values
where in fact we value little at all
it seems to be run by jesters and jugglers
and the King’s favourite fool
the values expressed,
by the so called clean and decent
are no more then surface gloss
underneath that emptiness creeps
and for all hope, they silently mourn its loss
