Leaving

i wish you had not left
and I wish you had stayed
but in amongst this mess,
which I have made
i realise there will be casualties
and I would like to think,
that we could all be saved
but I know how you feel
and anything less is second best
it’s just a case of when,
when we have to let go
hands hopelessly outstretched
the mess that I have made
i wish you had not left

but I have hurt and torn your feelings
the door closed with a thump
and I knew you really were leaving
