Trying to Be Yourself

trying to be yourself
is never easy
trying to remain upright
and with balance
it is never easy

what one person sees
another never gets
what one person adores
another easily forgets

i could tell you
that my heart is for let
but you would say
i am not a safe bet

trying to be yourself
unashamed and unabashed 
someone thinks you’re treasure
another, just trash

i would like to make it
without falling to pieces
capture the moments
and find new ones to live
it may come in fits and starts 
but I have plenty to give
