Mediocre Stand Up Routine

i have been fortunate
i have found ways forward
when i felt there were none
i have no regrets
about being young
somehow,
my force of personality
has carved out an eventual reality
even when it has caused,
the collapse of my sanity
i have managed,
to extend a mediocre stand up routine
to a lifetimes work
i have been fortunate
even though bouts of cruelty
and even though,
my personality is tough to swallow
i mean well,
in the spaces where time will follow
and my vanity,
has been found to reflect something shallow
