The Sun Shines Briefly on Your Youth

the sun shines
briefly when you are young
it does not shine on youth too long
and although that sun goes away
it comes back in different ways
on different days
when moments and experiences
come to stay

innocence has a brief moment
in the raging spotlight
before encounters
make it take flight
and although we never know everything
you never have such wide eyed sight
life and people
erode your unknowing
with a welders light
that is ever glowing
there is no lasting age
that pauses on just one page

the sun shines
briefly on your innocence
and youth and,
disappears as you look above your first found houses
the sun sets behind,
the slate roofs
it shines in such a way,
that gives unique colours
to your innocent early days

the sun shines
briefly when we are young
it does not shine on youth too long
and although that sun goes away
it comes back in different ways
on older future days
when less innocent moments and experiences
come to stay
