The Big Day

i have lived their wedding
each and every day
their life bound into the perception
what will they do when it goes wrong
i have heard her
talking about, ‘him’
it seems he is useless
and his purpose does not know where to begin
poor him…
poor her…
all this cost, all this stress
just to confirm a life they already share
table mats, photos and places
wine, beer, fizzy wine…
i know i should be less cynical
but sometimes the endless tale
leaves me less overjoyed
i do not inflict my life on others
they would be thoroughly bored
why does she smother
this will be the greatest day
that she has ever lived…
i suggest that life has greater things
and more precious gifts
