Felt Tip Pens

my self doubt
is coloured red
it is coloured
with felt tip pens
which i keep in my head

my confidence
is coloured orange
and it is coloured
using colouring pencils
with edges that are not so neat
and none of the colouring –
ever feels complete

my self doubt
was sketched in view
my self esteem
was coloured in blue
my hope
was painted by something new

my self doubt
is coloured red
i try to make my edges neater
with the words people have said
and things people say
i need my pencils and felt tip pens
and each day,
i need to start colouring again
