Sardine Can – Tuesday 1st March 2011

Sardine Can

the problem is, you are –
opened up like a sardine can
and those people on dating sites
they care as long as you fulfill a role
or meet a need
as soon as they are done
you are quickly pushed aside
and whilst they move onto the next
she must wonder –
why she never gets true respect
may i suggest it is –
the coldness, the callowness –
and the dogged determination
to keep on looking
all i see is a person –
clinging to the edge of a cliff
scrabbling to get back up
if you say words –
that you never truly mean
then you will always be a slave
to those most hideous of dreams
of course there was only –
ever one conclusion
i used to sympathise with your life
now i just see it as an illusion
