The Empty Chair – Written Thursday 24th October (Aged 44)

The Empty Chair

mum, you are not here
but i am working hard
and i would like you to know

the years are rolling by
and you are not here
but it is okay,
she still holds me
and still cradles my tears

mum you are not here
and we miss you so
it is never easy,
but time steamrollers on

you are gone
and the seasons feel real
mum, i am doing okay
i am working hard
and taking care of her
she is my wife now you know
but you could not be there
but we thought of you and made sure
we left an empty chair

mum i miss you
and all those conversations
your life,
a collection of crazy situations
your dreams,
the sucker punch,
to a life you too quickly left

mum i am working hard
our life rumbles and tumbles on
and we miss you so
