Left to Fall Through Life
We tumbled out of wherever
left to fall through life
some of us –
foraged for love
eating on the open plane
only to be snatched up
and left in pain
we were told –
the rights and wrongs
how two people –
should get along
and that, just being –
with someone,
makes it okay
it is all you need to say
but we were bruised –
before we got to the altar
with tears not yet wiped
and hearts that falter
this concession –
was a carnival trick
when people do not know –
where they fit
