How We Used to Be – Written Saturday 22nd February 1997

How We Used to Be

where was i when you teased me
seems like i am just following the bait
where was our lives
when we were young
where did our future hide?
so many things to consider
all of them stranger than fiction
where was i in the old days
the days that went too quickly
how i wish they had stayed
i just thought it was great fun
did not realise that i was being made
in and out of parallel lines
tracks to follow but not in time
verses of words not written in stone
where was i when you needed me
i was always there
i wish you could have seen
that i was waiting to care
and offer you a part of everything
where was i when i first met you
i wish i could remember
so i can be there again
