Impossible Circus Feats

it always comes down –
to faith in yourself
hard when the edges are sharp
on the highest shelf
but what can you do
those other people offer you treats
but they do not believe in you
and want some impossible circus feats

how many years
have i been writing down these emotions
how many pens
have troubled me for a solution
how many adventures
have gone door to door selling illusions

it always comes down –
to some kind of belief in yourself
that, as they raid your hope
as they set fire to your self esteem
and inhale the smoke
as they kidnap your dignity
and reason elopes

we all need to find an inner belief
that is, after all
the only true strength there is
