My Mother Was Strong but Weak (Originally Untitled) – Written August 2005 (Aged 30)

My Mother Was Strong but Weak

my mother was strong but weak
cradled by her emotions
those words she longed to speak
though i was young
i learnt fast
of her difficult and tortuous path
of the downtrodden past
my mother was strong and brave
but the past cannot always be saved
i wonder now, as an adult
if i could have done what she did
my mother was strong but weak
chained to a past
and with a victims heartbeat
though she held me in a cocoon
i knew she lived in empty rooms
i learnt that her past was deep
and stalked her in her sleep
the love of a mother given
is all the heartache ever forgiven
my mother was strong but weak
i sat right inside her arms
and heard her tear stained shriek
