Anger Is The Easiest Emotion

i would like to be angry
anger is the easiest emotion
it is uncomplicated
and declares no sanity
it has no barrier
and little connection to reality
but last night,
listening to your voice
compassion and feelings crept in
and they are far more complicated
forcing me to look at myself
part of me almost dislikes,
these feelings
especially when i consider the past
but anger is just a gut response
and should not last
and although compassionate feelings
act as the most trueful mirror
sometimes what i see,
almost makes me shiver
anger is the easiest emotion
last night i was left thinking
what do all my feelings mean
what are they based upon
the ghost of lives that could have been
the ghost of which has gone
