I Had Never Heard You Cry Before

i had never heard you cry before
i had never seen you display emotion
not the kind i had really wanted
but it is a long time,
since i was in that place
i had never heard you cry before
human nature crept in
and knocked on the door of my conscience
rattling a charity tin
and leaving me to work out where to begin
there is no sense of victory ,
no sense of pride
no love, flowering deep inside
i had never heard you cry before
