Whatever Happened to My Well Planned Life?
whatever happened
to the well-planned life?
when i was young,
i was told—
everything would be alright.
get to thirty—
i’d have two children,
a smiling wife.
whatever happened
to the well-paid job—
the one education promised me,
if i shut up
and listened
to the teacher’s endless talk?
where was my stable family
when i was young?
i thought we were having fun—
now one of them’s on the run,
starting over
with a new life.
whatever happened
to my life?
when i was young,
i was told—
everything would be alright.
