Holding Onto the Past – Written Thursday 1st November 2001 (Aged 26)

Holding Onto the Past

i could not hold onto the past
i let it sail away
it tried to chain me to the mast
i could not hold onto the past
i had to let it fly away
and make sure that it flew fast
those memories invent their own colours
but i know they do not last
i could sit here,
and talk of how it used to be
when i used to be a miserable wreck
trying to set my feelings free
how can those days have been the best?
i could not hold onto the past
i had to settle the things inside
depression does not have to last
before you do, it can die
i could not hold onto the past
i let it roll away
it tried to take me as it passed
i could not hold onto the past
when you finally let it go
its so called glory, fades really fast
