I Told Her I Kept My Soul in an Envelope
maybe they are right about me
they all have an axe to grind
they maul me
likes a wolf mauls its prey
they turn it upside down
and go on their merry way
i told her i kept my soul in an envelope
and that i would show it to her one day
i heard her sigh
maybe they are right about me
maybe i am not quite the full shilling
everyone is carrying baggage
and making judgments on others
some of us –
still flee so what we can hide under the covers
maybe they are right about me
what did they do to me
when i was just a child?
they maul me
at least i practice the art of self defence
and it is getting harder to fool me
