I Just Wanted to Be Your Boy

when i was nineteen and twenty
you were plenty
i had such feelings for you
but you had him
and i did not know what to do with them
you were infectious
i was shy and coy
and all i wanted, was to be your boy
i do not think you could ever know
how i felt for you
it has something to do,
with being young
and discovering things for the first time
you read my poems
and your eye followed every line
but i was covered in cold
and too shy, to just ask
i did not really understand
so i hung onto every hug,
and dreamt of holding your hand
i felt for you in every way
when i was nineteen and twenty
and back then you were plenty
it is such a shame, i left it all so empty
