Me in the Middle – Written Sunday 27th June 2020 (Aged 45)

Me in the Middle

saw a photograph
of mum and dad together
dad’s jacket was all wet
at that time, it was due to the weather
they were in the same shot
with me in the middle
together but apart
and that is the story of my heart
my simple beat, me in the middle
and them, never quite complete
two people at opposite ends –
of a one way street
doomed dancers, with two left feet
mum was smiling
at that time, we all cursed the weather
me in the middle,
and them as ever, never quite together
