Hanging Onto the End of Your Wire
another telephone call
another day
another person
another plastic personality
put on with the make-up
early in the suburban morning
another person i pass
could we be friends
well they never ask
they just do a mental check
look me over
and reassure themselves that they are the best
so i earn my pay
and search for that elusive respect
that the office will never say
another reason
to write that book you have always dreamed of
everybody pretends that they are something
so how come they want to be somebody else
another day
hanging onto the end of your wire
