Lightbulb
i spend too much time
debating with people
who would never,
even secure employment as a lightbulb
i spend too much time
arguing with men
whose masculinity is a cancer
for which they will not seek treatment
whose mental health needs support
and who spend far too long
being footsoldiers for ideas
and ideologies
that poison all of our lives
i spend too much time
arguing with people
whose critical thinking has gone drinking
and comprehension skills are never found
i try to show them empathy
the kind that they never show others
and there is an understanding they lack
not even to be the better person,
for them, is there a hopeful way back?
