You Have Always Been Expensive

i can count –
the amount of friendships
and friends
that have moved –
or changed –
or have been –
sacrificed for you
it was, without a doubt
a crazy thing to do
because i have –
turned good people away
and ultimately, i have lost
you have always been expensive
and now i am counting the cost
which is one –
i can no longer afford
hard to believe –
that once, you were so adored
