The Search for Identity
you attack me,
as you attack the world
glib phrases
and paraphrased sayings –
tumble from your mouth
their truth –
struggling to come out in the wash
you force your altered reality –
onto me
and i am somehow meant to sing and dance
as if you have somehow set me free
but i already am
i can tell you that it started with a ghostly cry
and a chain of hands
comforted by one special song
and then i began to understand
the search for identity
or one special clan
you attack me,
but in reality you are only attacking yourself
every single piece of jagged anger
born because you are ashamed to be yourself
