Want to Sleep

want to sleep
but scared where sleep will take me
i know that you will not wake with me
and i am so scared that i will wake –
and reach for you –
but you will not be there
my mind will ache –
for something we cannot share
want to sleep
i fear the dark
but in the same shaky breath
i prey for the dark
that it will envelop me
hold me, and take me somewhere safe
want to sleep
not sure i want to wake
it depends on where i dream
to which places i am taken
only then can i decide
if i really want to be awoken
please, do not be there, starting to cry
want to sleep
but do not want to wake –
without you by my side
i will reach for that need
knowing that there are only tears to cry
and crying is when your soul starts to bleed
