This Morning (Goodbye) – Written Between Tuesday 15th February 1994 and November 1994 (Aged 18/19)

This Morning(Goodbye)

she threads her way through sleep
waking slowly,
to rise and watch him eat
he sits, melancholy at the table
she wants to talk.
but her mind is blurred, her thoughts unable
he leaves for work silently
without a kiss goodbye
she settles into her daily boredom quietly
and she can only wonder why
she eats her breakfast,
wipes the mile from her face
she stares philosophically,
at the cluttered place
she goes to the bathroom and washes her face
she goes into the bedroom and packs her case
this morning will the be the last time,
her husband ever sees her
she closes the front door behind her
she closes a chapter on her life
she knows no one will be cooking the dinner
for when he gets home tonight
she walks up the road to a waiting care
the journey is not particularly long
but the occupants will go far
he comes home at seven, opens the door
dead by eleven, wanted to live somewhere else
so he chose a man made heaven
but does anyone really care,
it will be a long time before they find him there
