Demon of Materialism – Written Saturday 22nd October 1994 (Aged 19)

Demon of Materialism

once upon a feeling
stretching far into the sky
a demon lives,
a commander of the bad world
hunched and squat
with a horn so tall,
fire breathing and evil
they will come to earth
and they will find,
six men, women and children
and it will be the beginning feast
there are a thousand tortured souls
upon which he took,
and on their bodies he did eat
he grew strong,
from a nightmare fantasy
to everyday realism
as the people invented machines
and poisoned themselves with materialism
they hopelessly forgot their dreams
and in the beginning,
it was man against demon
good against evil
but soon it was man against man
as the demon violated their race
and became one of them
and as the first tree ever grown
watched from afar
it watched men lose that battle
and it cried, and it gave up hope
knowing that we had died
as our fires burned from which came smoke
people knew, once upon a feeling
long ago in the evening
that we no longer trusted each other
