Operate a Light – Written Wednesday 19th May 2021 (Aged 46)

Operate a Light

i talked of future days
yet of their state and type
i could never have imagined
i talked of mental illness
with a hint of therapy
i tried to highlight coincidence
with a stamp of irony
i talked about love
when socially,
i could barely manage a hug
i complained of not being free
but in those days
i had more freedom
than i could swallow
it was just me, me and myself
i was aspirational but shallow
and often my thoughts
were so hollow
i talked of love and friendship
yet i screwed people up
and put them –
in the waste bin of my life
i talked of hope when i did not know –
how to operate a light
