Stages – Written Tuesday 4th May 1999 (Aged 24)

stages on which we play
stages which we go through
stages of things we do
stages of things we say
life is lived like a dream
its passage treated like a stream
happy ever after
children carefully planned
career all planned as well
but plans are only drawn
stages always interrupt
each dawn is new born
and not always wanted
the wedding dress may start off white
but who is virgin like these days?
a church wedding in summer
but who respects religion these days?
so we will all be hypocrites at the altar
remember your lines
and remember, do not falter
one more stage to pass through
stages in my guises
stages for me and you
and life’s many different surprises
