Conversations That Can Never Be Had

i think people know…
i smile –
but they worry
that underneath i have a mantle of sadness
that i am sad
but there are always conversations
that can never be had
and there are people
with whom you just cannot share
it crosses lines and when you do
you wonder into those emotional affairs
and then, people dance before you eyes
as you writhe in your pain and confusion
you feel they offer the sweetest surprise
but you are mistaken
do not fall into your traps,
do not lose hope and let yourself be taken
