What Did You Want?
what did you want?
was it,
something to shore up your walls
was it,
someone to prevent a collapse
perhaps prevent further falls
maybe some filler for unfilled gaps
was it,
a lighthouse to steer you home
was it,
someone to give you a map
and someone to stop you feeling alone
what did you want?
was it ever,
what people gave
was it,
a prayer said from the pew
was it hope found in the knave
or a gravedigger that is true
but not true to the grave
was it a pathway unknown
or one already paved
was it a saint in dire need
the sort that is desperate to be saved
