Burning Down Bridges
it is the hypocrisy –
that makes me dance and struggle
people hold the contents back
and it is that which really hurts
as opposed to the act
it is the insensitivity –
that scares me half to death
it is that which takes away my breath –
and leaves me so painfully unfaithfully –
reaching for the gin
it is that which burns down my bridges
it leaves me feeling cold
as if i am a row of used up fridges
it is that which leaves me in despair –
somewhere on the outer ridges
it is apparent that people do not care –
when empathy has caught fire –
and there is no ability to share
it is the hypocrisy that gets me every time
in a life of open fields,
it is every unexploded landmine
