You Never Understood

you never understood me
and you never wanted to
you looked so fearful
chained to self imposed fate
left looking people
and hanging around the gates
this genetic fear
that you endlessly chase
but your life was always on show
played out in your eyes
like hope with nowhere to go

you never understood me
and you just tried to tell me
who i really was
sadly that’s when closeness retreats
when love finally stops
when i agreed with you
you were an absolute angel
yet when i didn’t want to be
you grew devil horns
i saw the sadness
i doubt it was there when you were born
