Houses, Cottage, Block of Flats

i would like to go back
to those houses that i once lived in
you know,
just for one last look around
because in memories
which i have to rely upon
they have already gone
but with one last look –
at the rooms i once occupied
maybe i could feel them again
because once,
they formed parts of my inside
so i need to go back and make peace –
or settle with these thoughts –
of what went before
put my adult hands on childhood doors
let me flow from room to room
in places of so many memories
all with their own unique tunes
houses, cottages, blocks of flats
if i could see them just once more
i would like to go back
but i know i will never find that door
