Merry-go-Round
i do not want to jump onto a merry-go-round
some kind of relationship merry-go-round
believing,
the only way,
to get over the previous one,
is to jump right back on
i do not constantly want to be on the rebound
wondering who i am and where i am
wondering if my feet will ever touch solid ground
the answer cannot be,
just find someone else
yet that is how we behave
because we do not want to be left on the shelf
i do not want to be holding a solid hand
but inside, holding hers
i do not want to pretend someone else understands
when i know i am not able to share
i do not want to jump onto a merry-go-round
yet heartstrings and feelings tug so hard
that some days, you feel so down
and so out of luck
all you do is look around
as the loneliness almost becomes too much
you wonder if you will ever be found
or truly relish someone’s special touch
i have got to resist the merry-go-round
and be patience, and wait upon a change of luck
