Into Light
into light,
from a darkness
that gripped your throat and held you tight
into light,
from a childhood
that would never give up the fight
one that took a knockout blow
just before the light
and before it would go
into light,
from something you could not solve
something for which you shoulder the blame
but my shoulders are soft
it is a weakness of my frame
into light,
like a darkness as you fly your kite
but with the string wrapped around you
clasping you way too tight
learning to feel okay
and learning to count your blessings
every minute of every day
