Belly Underneath
everyone has an opinion,
‘immigration’,
it is a favourite remark
the media tempt it
i have to let it pass
it is an, ‘underclass’,
and that term is offensive
constructed by those –
who are over defensive
where are the parents,
have they got any jobs?
it’s the welfare state
with the emphasis on state
but none of it rings true
it is the concept of society
that has never quite rung true
when society is wounded
and when it falls down
thinking over,
revealing its belly underneath
its what people fear
it has a stench and a reek
