Expecting – Written April 2010 (Aged 35)

Expecting

when she told me –
she was expecting a baby
i knew,
that fate had taken hold
i thought back –
and i wondered –
if it could have been different
i asked her if she was happy
and she said she was
i asked if he was happy
and she said, yes
it was just a shock you know
because,
i knew our time had passed
and that it would now go
and as you travel through life
encountering each other
sometimes turning on lights
occasionally finding success
i now say, good night
and i say farewell
i hope you sleep tight
and if you ever need me,
give me a yell
