Just Like Them
others do not feel like me
and i do not feel like them
i am not the mine owner
who is looking for gems
and i am not –
a used car sales person
standing on the forecourt
looking at others –
who in such change –
are dangerously caught
others do not feel like me
and i do not feel like them
they are pirates –
eating chunks of salty gammon
and i am not caught –
in the blast of their cannons
i stand there,
with sarcastic lip
through all the noise and explosions
i never let them onto my ship
and fight with my emotions
others do not feel like me
but sometimes i do feel like them
i do not own a smallholding
so i never have to count my hens
and sometimes,
others do feel like me,
let’s play together as we run outside
and confidently climb trees
are you like them? am i like you?
could we find common ground and commonality
