The Game’s Moved On
the person i like has closed a door
she has turned out a light
and gone back to where she was before
she has turned a lot of her past
into a lot of her future
the game’s moved on
but where has it gone?
i took so long to come out of the shade
now i will never know if we had a chance
the person i had built up a relationship with
a steady and growing friendship
has gone back to where she was before
i am left with something to give
still wrapped, it’s like an unwanted gift
i know nothing can ever be taken for granted
and nothing is for sure,
but the person i like has for a while drifted on
to be caught by something else
she has gone back to where she was before
the game’s moved on,
but where has gone?
James Garratt – October 1997
As a note and it’s hard to remember things I wrote years ago but this was based on a real person but the phrase, ‘The Game’s Moved On’ was a tagline to Mountain Bike Advert and Poster at my local Railway Station at the time (Southend on Sea). In fact I can still remember exactly where it was. I saw the tagline walking past the poster and thought, I’m having that tagline.
