Just Below The Surface

it’s just below the surface
the smile,
the weekly shopping,
diy ships and dinner parties
the smile,
the pleasant neighbours
wonderful children
and a long time spent together
but the smile is fake,
after so many years,
it is destined to break
we all want to be –
this so called better person
determined that the smile will not break
trying to hide the issues
that show the world that it’s all fake
after a few years the regrets start
and soon they become a constant ache
it’s just below the surface
