Parents Kept Quiet – Written Tuesday 1st May 2007 (Aged 32)

Parents Kept Quiet

laughter went on strike
and happiness boarded a train
optimism,
became a bent and buckled bike
parents elected out
or just kept quiet
then they began to slouch
hope searched for a psychologist
and became chained to the couch
friends went to school,
but chose a different bus
emotions evaporated –
like steam from a kettle
and when it came to love
it was too late
and didn’t have enough mettle
time sealed the room
and dug quietly, about six foot deep
only to become –
a monumental stone mason
with a headstone for prolonged sleep
but parents always elected out
or just kept quiet

  1. Whoa. This is amazing. The first lines had me glued to the screen (love the bike line & the alliteration) & it doesn’t let up. Strongly worded with a profound message that hits home… and, of course, I love the imagery. 😉
