I Am Me
i am me,
i am not your father
the one,
who left you with little girl dreams
torn apart at the seams
i am not the physician
who you cannot understand
even now, even today
i am me,
not the stepfather who got in the way
who pushed people around
and ignored what you had to say
i am me,
i am not the source of your pain
or any of your perceived failures
or the lack of spiritual gain
i am me,
yet trauma blinds you
and doesn’t allow you to see
but i can assure you,
i am me
